Instructions

  • Add a tablespoon of coconut oil to your pan along with 3 popcorn kernels. Set the temperature to a medium heat. Cover with a lid.
  • Once the initial 3 popcorn kernels have popped, the oil has reached the correct temperature and you can add the rest of the kernels to the pan.
Cover with a lid and shake the pan to ensure the popcorn kernels are coated in oil.
  • Shake the pan every few seconds to keep the popcorn moving, to avoid it from burning.
Every now and again open the lid slightly to release some steam. Don’t open it up too wide, or the popcorn will jump out of the pan!
  • After a few minutes the popping sound will start to slow down. This means that most, if not all, of your popcorn kernels have popped.
Pour the popcorn into a large mixing bowl.
  • If you are using butter then add a tablespoon of butter to the same pan and allow it to melt. Once the butter has melted, pour it over the popcorn and add the nutritional yeast and salt.
Toss it well using a couple of spoons to ensure that the seasoning is distributed evenly throughout the bowl.
    Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Storage
Homemade popcorn is best enjoyed straightaway.
However, you can store it in an air tight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Each day it will start to get a bit softer. So try and eat it sooner rather than later.
Please see ‘Ingredient Notes’ further up in this post for alternative seasoning options.
