Ingredient Notes

Orange Juice

Orange juice provides a dose of Vitamin C and natural sugars, which help your body recover after strenuous activity.

Try and use a good quality brand of orange juice that contains 100% pure or freshly squeezed orange juice, with no added sugars.

As the juice is fresh, you will find it in the chilled section of a supermarket / grocery store.

Orange juice made from concentrate is fine to use if you can’t find freshly squeezed. However, it may have lost some of its nutrients during the process of extracting the orange juice concentrate (forming a syrup like substance) and then being rehydrated with water at a later date.

Orange juice made from concentrate may also contain added sugars or flavours, which isn’t ideal.

Alternatively, if you have some large oranges to hand and a citrus juicer, you could make your own orange juice by squeezing the juice out of fresh oranges.

Coconut Water

Coconut water helps to replenish fluids and minerals lost when we sweat. It contains potassium, magnesium, calcium and sodium.

Coconut water is often shelf stable and is usually found with other soft drinks or health foods in a supermarket / grocery store.

Once you have opened your carton of coconut water it does need to be stored in the fridge and consumed within a few days.

Salt

When we sweat we lose sodium from our bodies. Adding a pinch of good quality salt to your electrolyte drink helps to replenish some of the sodium we have lost.

Avoid using table salt if possible, as this would have been heavily processed and striped of its natural minerals.

Use a good quality Celtic sea salt or Pink Himalayan instead, as they will contain higher levels of minerals due to a minimal amount of processing.

Equipment

  • Drinking glass of choice
  • Drinking straw to stir & sip
